Department of Zoology

About the Department

The Department of Zoology, Modern Education Society’s; Nowrosjee Wadia College, Pune was established 83 years ago, in 1939. It provides a good environment for research towards advancing the frontiers of knowledge. It also grooms and trains students in the modern techniques of science.

The department has a well-equipped laboratory for the undergraduate and postgraduate classes with an enriched library. The department organizes extracurricular activities from time to time such as conferences, workshops, hands-on training for students, symposia, seminars, and science exhibitions, and also every year organizes the intercollegiate event “Zoofest”. It helps to expand the knowledge and understanding of the new concepts and various aspects of students and faculty members and also provides a platform for students to interact and showcase their skills and talent. Bird watching activities are also conducted, and documentation of birds on the Wadia College campus has been done by the staff members and UG, PG students.

Our department provides exposure to the UG and PG students by organizing excursion tours, one-day field visits to various institutes, hospitals, ecosystems etc.

The department also has a Zoological club “EnthuZooastic” which organizes various activities for the benefit of the students. As the activity of the club Eminent scientists, Researchers, Academicians, Naturalists, Zoologists, and Environmentalists are regularly invited to give talks. Staff members keep themselves updated on recent research and also contribute by publishing papers in reputed journals. Faculty members have received minor project grants from BCUD. Collaborative research projects with SPPU, ZSI, and IISER have also been undertaken as part of M. Sc. Dissertation.

Most of the departmental faculty is with M. Phil. and Ph.D. awarded degree having approach to research view towards their respective fields.
