The Cultural Association caters the need of students in extra-curricular activities and hones their skills in various cultural activities.
It encourages students to participate in intra-college, inter-college, university level, state and national levels competitions like dance, singing, acting, literary and fine arts events, debate, elocution and so forth.
The inauguration of the annual college fest Nowros23 was organized on Monday, 27th March 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Entrance. Uniquely, the fest Nowrso23 was inaugurated at the hands of a divyang student “Gopal Bacchire and non-teaching staff”. As part of the 90th year celebration, a grand procession was led by Heads of Departments with placards of their respective departmental fests. The teaching, non-teaching staff, NCC cadets and NSS volunteers of Nowros23, and students participated in this grand procession with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. This year, there were total 22 departmental fests celebrated from 27th March to 1st April, namely Literaria, Beautiful Minds, Chemfest, Geographica, Historica, Tectonica, Shourya, Botanica, Tech-n-Talent, Tautology, Philomania, Physiquest, Biotexcellence, EcoFest, Electronica, Stategica, Maiboli, Hindi-Utsav, Saksham, Vijay, La Promandare-en-France and ZooFest.
The Students’ Social was held on 1st April 2023 from 3.30 p.m. onwards. The function was inaugurated by celebrity guests like renowned Marathi and Hindi film-maker Nagraj Manjule, actors like Aakash Thosar, Sayali Patil, Dipti Devi, Gargi Kulkarni, Bagvan Medankar (who is also the producer of famous Marathi play Shivaji Underground in Bhimnagar Mohalla) and Mangesh Kulkarni, Business Head of Zee Studios. The students were thrilled to perform in front of and interact with these celebrities from film industry. This year, the response from students was tremendous and overwhelming. They showcased their talent and artistic skills in Solo and Group Singing (Classical, Light Vocal, Bollywood, Mash-Up and Western), Solo and Group Dance (Classical, Contemporary, Folk, Western) Acting (Skit, Monologue), Fashion and Trashion Shows. During the function, Hon’ble Rupalitai Chakankar, President, Maharashtra State Women Commission, also graced the occasion and felicitated the student volunteers for making this event a grand success.
On 2nd April 2023, Staff Social was organised exclusively for teaching and non-teaching staff of the college. The day started with cricket and badminton matches. In the afternoon various fun-games like treasure hunt, tug of war, slow biking, balloon crash etc. were organised for the staff. In the evening, there were cultural events like music, dance and acting in which teaching and non-teaching staff members participated with a huge number. Overall, the college celebrated Nowros23 grandly.
This year, our college outshined in the university Yuvak Mahostav competitions having lion’s share in the Savitribai Phule University team at the state, zonal and national levels. It began with the Savitribai Phule Pune University ‘Swar-rang’ - the Intercollegiate Yuvak Mahotsav 2022. The students were selected to represent the college in all the five categories namely music, dance, theatre, fine arts and literary events for ‘Swar-rang’. The college participated in the district round of Swar-rang on 4th December 2022 organized at Fergusson College. It is indeed a pride moment for the college that the students won nine prizes in various competitions and overall the college was declared Runner-Up. The details of prizes are: First Prize in Group Song Indian, Western Solo (Sahil Bhat), Mono Acting- Male (Shubh Kamble); Second Prize in Indian Classical Percussion (Pruthviraj Deshmukh), Debate (Sidhant Thomas and Kruti Joshi), Spot Photography (Sarthak Khadge); Third Prize in Mime and On Spot Painting (Kanishka Suthar); and Consolation Prize in Skit.
The second round of Swar-rang was held on 5th December 2022 at BJS College, Wagholi and our college won prizes in four competitions: 1st in Indian Percussion Solo (Pruthviraj Deshmukh) and in Debate (Siddhant Thomas, Kruti Joshi) and Second Prizes in Western Singing Solo (Sahil Bhat) and Mime (Nilesh Aware, Janhavi Hargude, Pranali Dhavan, Amar Patil, Shrivardhan Kespi, Sandhya Belke)
Significantly, for the first time, 13 students from our college were selected in the Savitribai Phule Pune University team for the Indradhanushya State Level Yuva Mahostav held in December 2022 at Rahuri. These thirteen include Shubh Kamble, Pruthviraj Deshmukh, Janhavi Hargude, Sandhya Belke, Nilesh Aware, Monisha Amode, Mitali Walimbe, Sahil Bhat, Rucha Pawar, Ruchira Halwalkar, Shrivardhan Kesti, Rohit Dake and Ghyanshikha Hajarika. The University team was the Runner-up/ Second position in the Indradhanushya Competition.
Again our ten students from the college were part of the University team in the Satrang West Zone Yuva Mahostav held in January 2023 in Ganpat University, Meshana Gujrat. They are Shubh Kamble, Pruthviraj Deshmukh, Janhavi Hargude, Sandhya Belke Nilesh Aware, Monisha Amode, Mitali Walimbe, Sahil Bhat, Sidhant Thomas and Kruti Joshi. Overall, the University got the third position.
There was another feather in our cap as our four students vis-a-vis Shubh Kamble, Pruthviraj Deshmukh, Janhavi Hargude and Sandhya Belke were in the University team for the 36th National Yuva Mahostav, in February 2023 in Banglaore. It is a matter of pride for the college that almost one third and one fourth representations were there in the University team only from Nowrsosjee Wadia College in all these three competitions.
Nowrosjee Wadia College’s Cultural Association organised a one-day workshop on “Acting and Script Writing” in association with Savitribai Phule Pune University’s Board of Students’ Development on Thursday, 2nd March 2023. There were three resource persons namely a renowned film writer, director, actor Kiran Yadnyopavit interacted with students on Script Writing: Techniques and Nuances; a novelist, film and theatre critic Prof. Avinash Kolhe delivered speech on “- Tagore’s Kabuliwala: Story, Film and Play” and a film and theatre actor Shaahir Sambhaji Tangade dealt with “Acting: A Process.”. Total 103 students attended the workshop and had an opportunity to interact with these eminent personalities. Dr. Santosh Parchure, Director, Board of Students’ Development, Savitribai Phule Pune University presided the valedictory function where students who represented Pune University team at the state, zonal and national levels were felicitated. Overall, the workshop proved to be very beneficial and fruitful.>
Our students also shined in YIN Kala Mahotsav 2022 organized by Sakal Media Group. Our college team participated in competitions like Singing (Solo), Dance (Solo and Group), Vyangya chitra, Fashion show and Poetry held on 5 & 6 November 2022 at AISSMS IOIT College, Pune in which our students bagged two prizes: Pratham Gautam (F.Y.B.A.) Second Prize in Fashion Show and Tejaswini Bhalerao got the Second Position in Cartooning/Vyang-chitra.
Our students participated in Ma Ta Carnival ‘Tension Khallas’ jointly organized by Nowrosjee Wadia College and Maharashtra Times on 9th January 2023. Our students participated in various competitions and Sahil Bhat and Kumar Samindar won prizes in Singing, Janvhi Hargude and Bhavana won in Prizes in Dance, Shubh Kamble in Monologue and Shreevardhan Kespi in Stand Up Comedy.
The Cultural Association also encourages the students to participate in literary competitions like poetry recitation, debate, elocution, essay writing and so forth. Our students participated in various elocution, debate and poetry recitation competitions throughout the year 2022-23. The details are as follows:>
1. Miss Sukanya Dewoolkar (S.Y.B.A.) and Miss Shivani Trimale (M.Sc II) participated in Pune Vaktrutva Vad Mandal, Parivartan Yuva Vakta 2022 held on 27th November 2022. Miss Shivani Trimale won the Consolation Prize.
2. Miss Sukanya Dewoolkar (S.Y.B.A.) and Miss Shivani Trimale (M.Sc II) participated in P.C. Nahar Memorial Muktachintan Inter-Collegiate State Level Elocution Competition held at BJS College of Arts, Sci and Commerce, Wagholi on 17th December 2022. Miss Sukanya Dewoolkar won the Consolation Prize.
3. Miss Sukanya Dewoolkar (S.Y.B.A.) and Miss Shivani Trimale (M.Sc II) participated in the competitions like Moropant. >
4. Our Students participated in Shreeman Bhausaheb Gandhi Memorial State Level Inter-Collegiate Elocution Competition at Valchand Shikshan Samuh, Solapur on 8th January 2023
Miss Shivani Trimale participated in in Bharatratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar State Level Poetry Recitation Competition organized on the occasion of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Birth Anniversary on 03/01/2023 at R.N.C. Arts, J.D.B. Commerce & N.S.C. Science College, Nashik-Raod, and won the Second Prize.
The Cultural Association also encourages the students to participate in literary competitions like poetry recitation, debate, elocution, essay writing and so forth. As a step to it, Cultural Department organised a one day district level workshop on Essay Writing Competition on 25th January 2023 at the college. There were more than 100 participants from various colleges.
On 26th January 2023, our students performed various cultural activities to mark the occasions of Republic Day Celebration and the 90th Foundation Year of the College.
Our Cultural Association organizes various activities for the students to cater to the need of the students. Through it we take a step to find out artistic talents in our students. It is an attempt to hone their artistic skills through medium of art like music, dance, theatre, fine arts and literary events and discover their hidden talents. As an outcome of it, students participate in various competitions. For example our college won the 2nd prize in the street-play Jagruti Karandak organized at MMC’s New Law College Pune
Nirmiti stands for creation which is a forum to encourage students to hone their various artistic skills. It uses the medium of art i.e. music, drama, dance to discover students’ talent.
Nirmitee22 was held on 30th April 2022 in Tata Assembly Hall. Students showcased their talents in various cultural activities like dance, singing, skit, fashion show, instrumentals and various other artistic and cultural activities. The Chief Guest for the function was Hon. Shri. Satish Raut, a poet & bureaucrat. The occasion was graced by Hon. Shri Pravin Dada Gaikwad, Trustees of MES, Principal, Vice-Principals, all the teaching and non-teaching staff members.
